The consulate history, the relation with the Lebanese Government
The Chaoui family’s relation with Finland started in the early 30’s.
Through the Chaoui organization, Finnish paper, board and pulp companies sell substantial quantities of their products to Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
The exequatur of Zafer Chaoui as Honorary Consul to Zahle was signed by President Elias El Hraoui in 1990.
Zafer Chaoui was promoted Consul General to Zahle later on, and his exequatur was signed by President Elias El Hraoui on 26/01/1996.
Further to the closure of the Finnish Embassy in Beirut the exequatur of Consul General Zafer Chaoui to Beirut with jurisdiction to the total Lebanese territory was signed by President General Emile Lahoud on 08/01/2003.
